A deranged political wanna-be turned City Hall into a scream-filled shooting gallery yesterday – slaying a Brooklyn city councilman in a rampage that ended when a hero cop’s bullets took the killer down.
Councilman James Davis – who ushered the gunman, a political rival, around security minutes before the bloodshed – became the first murder victim in the nearly two-century history of City Hall, sending waves of shock and grief through a terror-weary city.
The shooting erupted at 2:08 p.m.
in the balcony of the Council chamber after Davis, 41, turned his back on Othniel Askew, who had planned to run against the freshman Brooklyn Democrat.
